The United States Air Force "Band of the Golden West Concert Band" will perform a free community concert on Wednesday, April 20th at 7:00 pm in the Tonopah High School Gymnasium. No tickets are required for this event.
The only active duty Air Force band west of the Rockies, it is composed of 47 airmen/musicians under the command and direction of Maj. Keith H. Bland. First Lt. Haley Armstrong is deputy commander and associate conductor of the ensemble.
The Band of the Golden West is stationed at Travis Air Force Base, Calif., in the San Francisco Bay area.
It performs in communities in Nevada, California, Washington, Oregon and Idaho. The band supports 10 Air Force bases, five Air Force reserve wings and five recruiting squadrons.
It has performed at ceremonial events and with guest artists such as Bob Hope, Eddie Albert, Wilford Brimley, Toni Tennille and Arturo Sandoval. In the Bay Area it also has performed at Raiders and 49ers football games and Giants and Athletics baseball games.
For the last 10 years, it has led off the Tournament of Roses parade.

This year's banquet is on Saturday, April 16th, 2011 at the Tonopah Convention Center.
The Committee has been working very hard to make this year’s event a huge success. The social hour begins at 5:00pm with dinner at 6:30pm, live auction, silent auction, raffles, and games throughout the evening. A nohost bar will be available.

The menu offers a variety of specialties such as a daily homemade soups served in a bread bowl, fresh cut French fries, and hand-dipped onion rings. There is a large choice of mouth-watering items on the lunch menu, such as fresh fish tacos with pineapple salsa or a made to order baby spinach salad with warm bacon dressing. All hamburgers, steaks, and beef are 100% Certified Angus, the taste of which is sure to please anyone who enjoys quality beef.
Dinner provides choices such as thick Ribeye Steaks, Spicy Spaghetti, or a pan-fried Chicken Fried Steak. These will be served with fresh-made biscuits and homemade dressing for your salad. A wide selection of pizzas will also be offered, such as the garlicky Chicken Alfredo Pizza, original recipe Taco Pizza, or the savory Margherita Pizza.
They definitely didn’t forget dessert. A rich Crème Brule, with a hint of citrus, or a large serving of Dave’s famous Death by Chocolate is sure to satisfy your sweet tooth. You could also chose a fresh Apple tart with real vanilla bean ice cream and warm caramel sauce.
“We are using recipes taught to me by my grandmother, mother, dad, aunt, and many other family members and friends. Sidewinders is about good, homemade cooking, starting with fresh, quality ingredients.” Says Barbara, who will be doing the majority of the cooking in the restaurant.
Sidewinders will be open everyday but Tuesday from 11am to 10pm., with hours extending until Midnight on Friday and Saturday. Sunday hours are 10am to 10pm, with a Sunday Brunch Buffet from 10am-2pm. The restaurant offers dine-in, delivery, and take out. They are conveniently located at 222 Main street (next to the Post Office) the phone number is 482-8888. David sums up their restaurant with one enthusiastic phrase. “Mama’s in the house!”
